Strengths and Challenges

One of my strengths is that I can make personal connections within my writing. This strength helped me in my personal narrative and connect my life. Another strength of mine is being able to write short response to a topic. This strength helps me in other classes besides English because I use this strength in history.       One of my challenges is that I am awful with grammar. I tried to fix this challenge over the year and it improved a little bit, but I still had to practice on it and use Grammarly a lot. Another challenge of mine was researching a topic then writing about it. I really had trouble with the research project because of this challenge

Hit and Misses

I feel like this English year went well for me. I did have some misses with the hits. So one miss I felt I had this year was the literary analysis on Lord of the Flies. I felt like the literary analysis was a miss for me because I was awful at the literary analysis, I really just found the analysis hard and confusing to me. Another miss for me was the research paper. I found the research paper to be awful because it took up all my time for homework and it was hard to do work in other classes.      I had some hits this year. I felt the personal narrative to be a hit of mine because it was a easy paper for me to write because it was based on something personal to me not, something I researched or read. Another hit for me this year where the blogs because I found them to be an easy way to twenty points and a way to improve my writing.

What were the best movies you saw in the past year?

One of the best movies I have seen this year was It. It is a horrifying movie about a killer clown that kills kids. It was a movie that I saw in the movie with my friends and why I found it such an enjoyable movie. It really scared me though because of the constant jump scares and because of my fears of clowns. Another good movie I saw this year was Black Panther. Black Panther is about a superhero who is protecting his country of Wakanda. Black Panther was really enjoyable for me because I really like superhero movies.       Another movie I saw this year was a classic which is Training Day. Training Day is about a veteran cop who let a rookie cop ride with him for one day. I really enjoyed this movie because I have a bunch of family members that are cops so it was a interesting movies to me. Another movie I saw this year was Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I really enjoyed this movie because I really like the Star Wars series and it is a enjoyable movie to...

Purple Hibiscus Reading Response

In the book  Purple Hibiscus,  there is a lot going on with Kambili coming home from her aunts house to her Dad beating her because she painted a photo of her late grandfather. I really like how the author showed how Aunt Ifeoma changed Kambili and Jaja. The aunt changed them by showing the fun and a loving personality which they did not get from home. Jaja and Kambili did not receive love from their parents because their Dad is very religious and there Mom is scared to love them because she is scared to the her husbands response.     Father Amadi is the first person we see Kambili really have a "crush" on. Kambili starts showing signs of like Father Amadi after she went to the stadium with him. This is also a crucial shift in us meeting Kamibil as readers because this is the first time she shows real emotion. Kambili shows emotion again whenever her grandfather passed away which was surprising to me.

US sanctions on Russia

Trump and the US just sanctioned Russia to target Russian oligarchs that are tied to Putin. The sanctions are because of few events: these events were the poisoning of a Russian spy in England, the Russians tampering with the elections, and the biggest cyber attack in history. Trump credits himself as being the toughest president on Russia because of the tough sanctions he has placed on Russia. The US is planning on targeting successful businessmen and political figures that have close ties with Vladimir Putin.      The US is also urging is close and strong allies to take the same steps they are taking and to have strong sanctions on Russia. The US expelled 60 Russian spies and diplomats in response to the death of the Russian spy in England. Trump's administration wanted to hold a news conference but eventually decided not to. Trump's administration is still pressured from Russian hawks to take more sanctions on Russia. I agree that these sanctions ...

Purple Hibiscus Reponse

The book Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche has been a very delightful and fascinating book to read. So far in the story we have seen different ways of culture throughout the whole book. Such as the native foods and drinks Sisi makes for the family, some of the foods are Jollof Rice, cashew juice, and mango juice. We see Nigerian culture also through the market where Kambili, her mom and Jaja go. She describes the market of being very busy and filled with different types of vendors and shops. The culture is very different than the culture I am used to in America. I think Adiche makes the culture very evident in this book for a reason so that people that are not from Nigeria learn Nigerian culture while reading.      Tradition plays a large part in the book too. Such as the tradition that the whole family must go to the alter and receive communion. When Jaja does not receive communion it makes his father very angry because Jaja broke a family ...

Free Post - Poem(Fortnite)

We get on the bus. Where should we go Tilted Towers, Loot Lake, maybe even Lucky Landing. We eventually decide Tilted is the best option. We jump with 20 other random people A four man squad versus 20 people We land and get all the loot. We engage in battle and wipe a squad. We eventually wipe all the squads. We mine and mine all the resources. We run to a mountain to make our base. We see 5 people left. It's us against one. I see him I shoot. We win! Victory Royale!

Song Analysis: Africa by Toto

The song I choose to analyze was Africa by Toto. The songs has a lot of techniques that it uses within the song. One technique the song uses is a simile in the line "As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti," this lyrics give life to the song because when you listen you here two things that you do not usually put together. This technique adds to the overall interpretation of the song because the song is kind of boring before this point but then you hear this simile and the song brightens and gives us a poetic verse. The effect this lyric has in the song is that is gives the song life and makes the song better. This technique added to my overall interpretation of the song because it made the song more interesting and made me want to research why they used this lyric and what poetic device it used.      Another technique it uses in verse one is sibilance because it repeats and has the letter "s" a lot. This technique helped with my over...

Poem: Mountain farmer

I was staying in a snowy mountain lodge on Monday, with the realization of learning that I must wake at the crack of dawn to the sounds of chicken crows. I wake up to miss the kiss of my wife which would be nice. I am sad, sour, and sore with the sound of snakes hissing. They only hiss at me, or am I the only thing they see no that cant be. Because my family is here with me, to run the farm with so the whole world can see. Techniques used: Assonance, sibilance, euphony, cacophony

Free Post- Shaquem Griffin

Shaquem Griffin has had a bunch of buzz around his name every since is outstanding performance in the NFL Combine this year. Griffin ran a 4.38 forty-yard dash, which was the fast forty-yard dash time for a linebacker. Griffin did a twenty repetitions of a 225 pound weight. Shaquem also did great in the drills were you show off you skills in your actual position. People were really surprised when Griffin did all of these great things at the combine because he had to have his arm amputated at the age of four.      Griffin showed everyone that if you really shrive for something that you can do it. Griffin's performance at the combine is very inspiring because it showed me that if you work hard at anything it can happens. You just have to try your hardest at practice and never give up on your dreams and anything can happen.

Launch

Launch was a day full of fun and great presentations by seniors at Episcopal. I really liked all of the Launch presentations, but one presentation I really like was the presentation by Jack Melton. Jack's presentation was really interesting to me because it was about the Cajun Navy and the impact they had in Hurricane Harvey compared to the little help people had in Hurricane Katrina. The presentation started off with a really sad video that showed really how devastating Hurricane Katrina was. This really hit close home to me because my grandparents were living in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, luckily they got out of New Orleans before the hurricane hit.     Jack then explained how the Cajun Navy helped with multiple mobile apps. Jack had an example with a call some placed in Houston during Hurricane Harvey and the Cajun Navy came to save the lady who was in flood water. After this presentation and seeing all the Cajun Navy did shows...

Research Update

My research question is Why do the Vikings get such a brutal reputation when Europe was just as violent? The Vikings were a Medieval Kingdom that settled in the countries in Scandinavia at first but spread through Europe. The Vikings are seen as a very brutal tribe who had very ruthless and cruel ways of fighting. Even though the Vikings did raid towns and take the riches of the towns the Vikings also traded and explored like other kingdoms and were one of the very first super skilled boatsmen.      Europe at the time were filled with brutal kings. An example of the brutal king at the time was Charlemagne. Charlemagne is considered being a great team but he also killed people if they did not convert to Christianity and lead the killing of multiple people.

Reading Response

ATDPTI is a very intriguing and interesting book. I really like the main character Junior and how he explains his life on the Rez. The Rez is not the ideal place to live but the people who live on the Rez make the best of their life. I also really like is how in the beginning is how Junior tells us how good him and his friend Rowdy were really good.      Junior and Rowdy are complete opposites. Rowdy wants to beat everyone up while Junior is scared of being beat up. I find this funny because the two cannot be separated no matter what. Also Junior sister Mary is interesting because I still cannot decide what here impact in the story is.
